Smoking Cessation Acupuncture Treatments

Smoking cessation acupuncture is one of the levels of support that is available for those who are committed to giving up. Stopping smoking is never easy (Mark knows this through personal but succesful experience). The chances of success are increased by having as much support and motivation as possible.

First, a quick word about the motivation aspect. This is essential if somebody is really going to quit. There really is no point coming for smoking cessation acupuncture unless you are serious about wanting to stop smoking. Acupuncture can be extremely helpful with the process, but it cannot give up cigarettes for you. If you’re not serious about wanting to give up, then Mark suggests you save your time and money and skip the acupuncture.

However, many people who are serious about stopping smoking struggle and sometimes fail in their endeavour, and it is these people that should think about smoking cessation acupuncture to support them in the process of becoming a non-smoker.

Mark’s program involves four appointments. He recommends two appointments in the first week, followed by weekly treatments for the next three weeks.

There are three strands to Mark’s approach to smoking cessation acupuncture program. Firstly, an acupuncture treatment is carried out at each appointment using a combination of 1) acupuncture points that are clinically associated with smoking cessation and 2) acupuncture points geared towards the individual in each case.

Secondly, points in the ears that are associated with addiction and detoxification are stimulated using tiny magnets on adhesive tape. These stay in the ear for the next few days (invisible to others!) and provide ongoing treatment. These auricular acupuncture points have been used in a wide variety of clinical settings since the 1970s, when they were popularised by their use in helping treat heroin addiction in New York.

Thirdly, a qi-gong exercise is demonstrated for the client to practise three times a day over the coming weeks. It is a vey simple but effective piece of qi-gong, easy to learn but providing a profound effect.
