Acupuncture and Coronavirus Update

Here is the acupuncture and coronavirus update from London Acupuncture Therapy. Mark closed his clinics on the week beginning 16 March. As far as he is aware, all of his colleagues who belong to the British Acupuncture Council have done the same, some slightly later and one or two before him.

As the coronavirus grips the world, sadly the practice of acupuncture is one of many things affected

Mark has given much thought on how to balance the needs of his patients with prioritising their safety and adhering to the partial lockdown implemented by the government. While many patients have expressed disappointment at having to cease treatment for the time being, this was something that Mark clearly felt had to be done.

Mark has continued to offer support to all his patients via email and telephone. In addition to acupuncture and what happens in the treatment room, he has always worked closely with his patients with regard to lifestyle, diet, and qi gong exercises. All this he is still able to help them with and in addition can give advice about the self-administration of acupressure. He is also more than happy to speak to any new people who have an interest and would like to ask any questions.

The latest update about acupuncture and coronavirus from his governing body came through on Friday 24 April. As the only regulatory acupuncture body that is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, the British Acupuncture Council has been liaising closely with them throughout this period. Both bodies agree in their interpretation of the government guidelines during this extended lockdown period that acupuncture, along with dentistry and opticians (except in limited specific cases for those two professions) should not be carried out professionally at this time.

Mark very much looks forward to starting back in his Greenwich, Highgate, Battersea, and Camberwell practises once the time is right. In the meantime, he is more than happy to communicate with patients or new people to offer whatever support he is able to.
